Area of Expertise/Approach
Shannon is committed to addressing rehabilitation holistically. This includes investigating why an individual may be prone to certain injuries, educating clients regarding injuries and treatment protocols, addressing any soft tissue imbalances that may be present, and providing an exercise program to restore function and prevent further injury.
About
Shannon is a Port Moody girl, born and raised. She has participated in a variety of sports including lacrosse, soccer, wrestling, volleyball, and her greatest passion rugby. She is always up for a challenge, and her current goal is to learn how to play pickleball (hoping it will be a little easier on the joints than rugby).
Why she became a Physiotherapist
Shannon has competed in various sports and has seen the impact physiotherapy has had on athletes from an early age. As an athlete, she is able to empathize with those who are injured and able to tailor rehabilitation programs appropriately. In fact, Shannon is often managing her own rehabilitation program, addressing her weekly battle wounds.
Athletics
Shannon is passionate about anything rugby; you can find her playing (non-contact), watching, coaching, and even refereeing the sport across the Lower Mainland. It was the exposure to this physically demanding sport that sparked her interest in injury prevention and rehabilitation. She began her studies at Simon Fraser University and graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and a certificate in Health and Fitness Studies. From there, her passion for rugby drew her to the United Kingdom where she obtained her Master’s degree in Physiotherapy at Oxford Brookes University while maintaining her status as a varsity athlete.
Something you should know about Shannon
While Shannon may have been one of the hardest hitters on the pitch in her prime, she is actually a softie outside of rugby, and can often be found participating in her other hobby baking breads and various desserts when she is not on the field.
