Alleviate Your Back Pain With A Strong Pilates Practice

We encourage a well-rounded approach to injury prevention and rehabilitation. When it’s about spinal health we encourage you to consider exercises that promote deep abdominal strengthening and postural awareness. We understand that most people at some point in their lives have experienced lower back pain (LBP). If you’re lucky, it’s not very often. But if you’re not, you know how debilitating it can be. If you are ready to feel better, improve flexibility and improve your posture, then add pilates to your routine.

How Does Pilates Relive Lower Back Pain?

Pilates exercises require that you hold a neutral spine position or “perfect” posture before you begin a movement.  The strong focus on deep abdominal strengthening creates stronger and reliable support muscles for the spine. By implementing these techniques correctly you can begin to relieve the discomfort and possibly prevent any new LBP issues. You will begin to move better and just plain feel better. Pilates is considered by some to be “…the fountain of youth.”

What makes Pilates so special.

  1. Deeply strengthens the abdominal muscles. A strong core is important for stabilizing your spine. Maintaining a strong core keeps the back strong and keeps the body in proper alignment. Through Pilates, you learn how to engage the core to strengthen the abdominal muscles through a series of small, isolated movements using mainly your body weight.
  2. Improves posture. Poor posture produces pain. With Pilates, you practice proper spinal alignment which is imperative for overall health. This is done by strengthening your back & abdominal muscles through specific mobility exercises.
  3. Increases flexibility & joint fluidity. Pilates exercises focus on dynamic mobility. The movements are intended to elongate and strengthen the muscles to promote muscle elasticity and joint mobility. A body with balanced strength and flexibility is less likely to be injured.
