Bell Let’s Talk Day: A Conversation About Mental Health
January 31 is Bell Let’s Talk Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about mental health.
The campaign focuses on four main pillars:
-
Ending the stigma through open conversations
-
Supporting organizations that improve access to care
-
Investing in research programs
-
Promoting better workplace standards for mental health
How We Want To Help
At Impulse Sport Therapeutics, we recognize the value of mental health and those who support it. Leading up to January 31 and through February’s Mental Health Month, we’ll be sharing daily mental health content. This includes simple daily practices, Q&A sessions with mental health professionals, and informative blog posts like this one.
Taking a Look at all Sides
These components of health are deeply connected. Mental, physical, and social well-being influence one another in powerful ways. As a physical therapy clinic, we focus primarily on the physical side of health. However, mental and social factors often play a major role too.
Recognizing this connection allows us to treat the whole person — not just the symptoms.
The Role of Education
Education is a key part of recovery. Sometimes, simply understanding an injury can help reduce stress and uncertainty. In other cases, the brain itself can play tricks — such as in conversion disorder, when the body stops working due to emotional distress.
Historically, mental and physical health were viewed separately. However, evidence now shows how closely they’re linked. Conditions like depression, anxiety, and OCD can all impact physical health, from heart disease to chronic back pain.
Lifestyle Choices Matter
Our mental health affects everything — mood, hormones, motivation, and even lifestyle habits. Factors like diet, exercise, sleep, and substance use can influence both body and mind.
Fortunately, improving your health doesn’t need to be complicated. Sometimes, it starts with a simple conversation about your nutrition, sleep habits, or exercise routine.
The Importance of Teamwork
When addressing both physical and mental health, collaboration is essential. Health professionals must work together to meet every aspect of a patient’s needs.
At Impulse Sport Therapeutics, we’re proud of our strong relationships with physicians and mental health practitioners across West Vancouver. Our chiropractors, physiotherapists, massage therapists, acupuncturists, and kinesiologists often collaborate with psychologists and psychiatrists to deliver the best possible care.
Talk About It
Thinking about taking a step toward better mental health? Start by exploring trusted resources such as The Mental Health Foundation or Health Link BC.
However, your best starting point may be your regular clinician. Speaking with someone you already know — like your chiropractor or physiotherapist — can make the process easier and more comfortable.
The Mental Health Series is a collaboration between our West Vancouver Chiropractor team and community partners.
